Dennis Hayes Davis passed away June 19, 2018. A native of Asheville, Dennis is the son of Edna Jones Davis and the late Clarence George Davis. He graduated from A.C. Reynolds High School in 1973. He was a master mechanic for 44 years.
Surviving him are his wife of 43 years, Ronda Whitney Davis; daughter, Whitney Davis Pyles and her husband, Seth, and their expected son, Rowan Hayes of Jonesborough, TN; brothers, Terry Davis (Lynda) of Black Mountain, Larry Davis (Thelma) of Asheville, Gary Davis (Kate) of Candler, and Ronnie Davis (Shirley) of Fairview; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Davis.
Before finishing high school, Dennis was hired by the Dorato's in 1972 at 865 Tunnel Road, forever learning the trade of Auto Mechanics. He occupied the same work bay through many ownership changes over 44 years, until his health began to decline in 2016. Dennis enjoyed playing softball and later became a part of The City of Asheville Umpires. He umpired 3 National championships and numerous state and regional championships. He also enjoyed racing where he and friends helped to build numerous racecars. He was an avid fisherman and was in countless carp fishing tournaments. Hunting was his favorite fall pastime in Elberton, GA, where he went with the same group each year. During basketball season, he was a die-hard Tar Heel fan. Many fun times were spent camping with family and friends.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals, 208 West State Street, Black Mountain, NC at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 23, 2018. The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday prior to the funeral service. The Rev. Tommy Wilkes and Dr. Keith Hutchinson will officiate. Burial will take place at Sky View Memorial Park immediately following the funeral.
